Yesterday’s first day of school for the three schools I visited ran more smoothly than I envisioned. Blackhawk’s staff wearing matching t-shirts made it easy for first time middle schoolers to identify staff members who could answer their questions and point them in the right direction. The theme for this year, “Mission Possible” will soon be clearly understood by the newcomers despite their cautious and curious saunter through the still unfamiliar hallways.
The beautifully colored and freshly painted hallways of Snider High School was great to see, but still didn’t top seeing all the staff and students greet each other and answer each other’s questions. What I expected to be a crazy beginning ran very smoothly as staff members quickly answered students’ questions and got everyone in the proper location to promptly start the first day of school. As I left the building, the halls were quiet and the students and teachers were in the classrooms engaged in teaching and learning the expectations to make the school year a great one.
I missed the start of school at Shambaugh, but was told it ran more smoothly than expected. I was warmly greeted and given a tour by the principal. The building was warm and inviting with bulletin boards creatively decorated with this year’s nautical theme. Students were quietly engaged as teachers ardently prepared them for a year full of meaningful learning. A great day set the tone for an awesome school year!
Good luck to everyone as we start another school year. I love to see teachers making a difference in the lives of children. What an awesome profession …and what an awesome year this is going to be thanks to our dedicated staff!
